A prominent Ugandan internet entrepreneur has launched a new digital news brand in Kenya, marking his company’s first major expansion outside Uganda.
Busiinge Aggrey, 25, unveiled Nairobic (https://www.nairobic.com), a Kenya-focused online news platform, as part of his growing portfolio under Abjine Media Group.
Born on 22 May 2000, Aggrey is widely known for founding The Black Examiner, a Ugandan digital news outlet, and Host Darling Cloud, a web hosting service. He is also the force behind Splest, a cloud infrastructure provider, and Abjine Media Group, a media-tech company with subsidiaries in publishing, digital journalism, and web services.
Speaking at the launch, Aggrey said the move reflects a commitment to “pan-African storytelling through digital innovation.”
“Nairobic is our response to the growing demand for accurate, accessible, and youth-focused news in Kenya and across the region,” he said. “We aim to offer a bold, independent voice that resonates with today’s generation.”
The new platform will cover politics, technology, business, culture, and youth issues, with a distinct editorial tone targeting digital-first audiences.
Abjine Media Group already runs several digital ventures including:
The Daily Nile – a news site focusing on the Nile Basin region;
The Ghetto Post – a publication spotlighting urban communities and grassroots stories.
With Nairobic, Aggrey joins a growing list of young African media innovators using technology to challenge traditional newsrooms and reach underrepresented audiences.
“Nairobi is a dynamic media and tech hub,” Aggrey added. “It was only natural for us to build something that reflects its pulse.”
The launch signals a broader ambition by Abjine Media Group to scale its operations regionally, with plans to expand into other East African markets in the near future.
