the presence of Opal and Hasset is seen as a strategic boost to both the cultural and tourism sectors—further reinforcing Tanzania’s commitment to promoting its heritage through global platforms.

Tanzania has officially welcomed Miss World 2025, Suchata Chuangsri—popularly known as Opal—alongside Miss World Africa 2025, Hasset Dereje of Ethiopia, as part of a special cultural visit aimed at spotlighting the country’s heritage and boosting its global tourism appeal.

The two international beauty queens arrived in the country on Tuesday, July 15, to a warm reception led by former Miss Tanzania titleholders Rose Manfere (2020) and Halima Kopwe (2022). Senior officials from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports were also present to receive them, including the Director of Arts Development, Emmanuel Ishengoma, and National Arts Council Executive Secretary, Kedmon Mapana.

The visit, jointly coordinated by the Ministry and the National Arts Council (BASATA), is part of Tanzania’s growing efforts to strengthen cultural diplomacy through the arts and global pageantry.

In a statement released by BASATA, the council described the event as an important step in showcasing Tanzania’s identity to the world. “This is more than a ceremonial visit. It is an opportunity to build cultural bridges and spotlight Tanzania’s beauty, creativity, and diversity through globally recognised figures,” the statement read.

Miss World and Miss World Africa will take part in a series of engagements, including tours of historic and cultural landmarks, interactive sessions with local artists, and media appearances. Their itinerary also includes community visits and participation in events designed to highlight Tanzania’s creative industry and tourism assets.

Tourism officials and cultural stakeholders hope the high-profile visit will raise Tanzania’s visibility on the international stage, especially at a time when the country is positioning itself as a leading destination for cultural tourism in Africa.
